How did you fare in High School as a JW?

for me it was rather painful.

it was like pressing your nose against the candy store window, knowing that you can look, but you cannot partake.

Well it did not make me popular thats for sure! Picked on and teased, called 'jovo' a lot.

Had one real friend all through high school. Was pretty awkward trying to explain JW stuff so in the end i didnt try. Was never part of a group so i never had peer pressure to take drugs, smoke, drink or chase girls (who thought i was weird anyway) Stayed away from sports and was in the library a lot.

In the end, i didnt really scar me. Left at the end of year 10 to start a job. Wasnt interested in higher education, probably being in a small country town put that out of reach anyway.

Wouldn't want to repeat the time though!

i was just on the new jw.org site and i have to say, they've done a good job.

it looks pretty sleek and is easy to navigate.

the production values of their magazines (in particular the photos) seems to have improved since i last spent much time on the site.

Are the Adventists looking to attract downtrodden JW's?

sorry if anyone has already posted on this but i did not see anything related in the few pages of active topics i checked.. last saturday i went to an oil change facilty and one of their perks is they give you a copy of the current usa today while you wait in your car.

on page 8a is a full page ad titled "liberty of conscience threatened.... a national sunday law will be established as the mark of the beast.".

the article then goes on a typical adventist rant about how saturday, not sunday, is the real sabbath established by god.

If and when Holt gets a trial...

presuming he does get a trial.... would the fbi or police, prosecution or defense teams look into whether the elders may have known about his child porn?

would they look at why he stepped down as an m/s?.

i am imagining that if they do, and they do find that the elders had knowledge of his predilictions could this be yet another bad turn of events for the wt?.

So far the local community has seemed to be giving the JWs there a rather lot of 'love', what also if they learn as a result of trial publicity, the truth that Holt was not just a random guy who ''had been to the kingdom hall'' but was in fact until recently very active as a JW and was well known to the victim?

Could be another bad turn for the WT...

why, he even has gone to some meetings at their kingdom hall!

someone calls with a large wedding tent that they would like to donate and set up in the kingdom hall parking lot for the public memorial on friday.

i was amazed how people who came that didnt even know whitney, but simply felt a need to be here and comfort the family.

would not be surprised (no proof of course) if Brooklyn sent word down the line to pull out all stops on this one. (spin that is, as they did zip otherwise)

They sure need a PR boost after the conti verdict.

Regarding that misleading ''he even went to the kingdom hall'' comment, I am sure i read elsewhere that holt and wife had a key to Whitney and Clints apartment to water plants while they were away... so much for the occassional K/H visitor, They must have known and trusted him or they would never do that. Nothing but a spin job on facebook worthy of a yearbook experience!

How do I disprove "New Light"?

i currently am a jw and my parents are too.they seem either confused or dislike it when i raise questions and recently, when i questioned them about 1925 and 1975, i've been told it's changed due to "new light.

" i don't remember nor do i have very much knowledge of "new light.".

this "new light" just dosen't sit with me and neither do the false prophecies.new light first of all, breaks a scripture in deut.

No need to...

give the Watchtower enough time and they will do it for you, the 'new light' will be replaced and become 'old light' and therefore false.

But seriously, go to the foundation of the concept in proverbs and have it read in its entire context and its plain to a blind man that the concept is a scam.

note: NOT plain to a JW though...

First murder of the Watchtower as Corporation??

from what has been said and repeated by many others, including david lynn carter of roanoke/wirth, virginia, when he was alive, david had been under u.s. federal protection after having been poisoned by two jehovah's witness elders and a relative although he also contended with having been born with a genetic condition.

so the David Carter fellow had knowledge that the Watchtower was in receivership with the US Gov administering its affairs. This had to be secret in case it lead to mass suicide ala heavens gate. And he was murdered to keep it secret?

And the sleuth is a TV show detective...?

wonderful if true but the christian witness website layout screams sensationalism and poor credibility. Its all over the place like a mad womans breakfast.

Did I do a fade without knowing it?

seeing that there a few new fade threads, and farkels hard to top one, got me to wondering if i actually faded without realizing it till 14 years later.... rewind to 1998 when i just plum ran out of steam.

too many years battling my personal demons resulted in a rapid cease function and in the course of a couple of months i went from m/s and the guy most likely to succeed to leaving wife and congregation.

i passed in asignments, stopped preaching and meetings cold turkey, handed back public talks etc.

Too many years battling my personal demons resulted in a rapid cease function and in the course of a couple of months i went from M/S and the guy most likely to succeed to leaving wife and congregation. I passed in asignments, stopped preaching and meetings cold turkey, handed back public talks etc. For the next two years until i was DF i sat alone in my rented apartment in another part of town, rarely getting any JW visitors at all. The old cong had no new one to send my card to, hell the new local one didnt even know i was there. When I was DF by then a quarter of the old cong probably had never heard of me.

Don't know if i faded or melted!
